There was once a “Dr” – you know the one who called herself a Dr and wasn’t!
Anyway, she wasn’t even right, you are not “what you eat”, you are “what you digest and absorb”.
If you digestive tract is jeopardised by caffeine, toxins, dehydration, excessive mucous , lack of fibre to name a few then you will never get the energy you want to feel alive and ready to take on each day with vigour.
If you know that you struggle with your digestion, its pretty obvious, you don’t need me to tell you that.
But just incase: bloatedness, fatigue after eating and stomach cramps should get you thinking.
Three Things I suggest you do:
1. I strongly suggest you do is look at alkalising pre meal.
Alkalising salts like THESE are the ones that I use.
Take them 30 mins prior to eating breakfast. The other option that is phenomenal but tastes TERRIBLE is sodium bicarbonate. If you can drink that you deserve a blue peter badge! Failing that I use a slice of lemon in water when I haven’t got alkalising salts.
2. Then you need to get get plenty of green veggies in. I suggest at least one green vegetable at each meal, particularly the cruciferous ones.
I have found an absolute gem of a greens drink, the first one that contains absolutely everything it should (no crap) and tastes tremendous.
Lean greens , not only will this aid both points 1 and 2 , it leads me on to the third point which is digestive enzymes.
When we take antibiotics these destroy the good bacteria and it can take a while to restore the good stuff.
I learnt this first hand when in Cambodia recently. Suffice to say I got ill, when I got back I got straight back on my Lean Greens and I started to feel alive again.
So point 3….
HERE are 3 (well 4) Key Digestive Enzymes that you should be very aware of when aiming for health.
Amylase is one really important digestive enzyme.
It’s known for its role in starting the ‘pre-digestion’ of carbohydrates.
One of the interesting things about amylase is that it actually decreases as you get older.
Kinda explains how we could eat more carbs such as pasta, bread, cereal and pizza when we were kids, right?
We could even eat them without our stomachs BALLOONING in size within an hour.
Amylase helps to combat indigestion and heartburn and can also be effective in curbing appetite.
The second one is Lipase, this is the enzyme that is responsible for the break down of fats.
A VERY important for weight management, it is also plays a key role in metabolising sugar.
Interestingly lipase is found to be very low in obese people and people that have gained weight.
People with gut issues such as Crohn’s and Celiac disease are also found to have a lipase deficiency.
It is abundant in raw butter and has been used as a treatment for psoriasis.
Lipase is also effective against viruses, as it has been proven to be able to digest the wall of viruses – nice!
A very effective enzyme that can help with a number of different issues – I think you’ll agree!
Lastly but not least, Cellulase is another important enzyme that aids digestion HUGELY.
In a nutshell, cellulose is kinda responsible for the breakdown of the fiber found in vegetables.
BUT as we cannot produce cellulose ourselves, it’s SUPER important that we get it in our guts through either food or supplementation.
Cellulase has also been shown to:
* help cholesterol levels.
* help improve blood pressure
* help to detoxify the intestinal tract
But I have spoken to the creators of Lean Greens, the reason they put it in is for the digestion of the good stuff.
Like they said, after all, you’re putting a lot of time, effort and money into eating better, it would be a REAL shame not to be able to digest all that goodness right?
Go on ONE MORE…….
This one kind of raised a few eyebrows with lactose intolerance being in the spotlight a little more these days…
But lactase actually HELPS with this.
Lactase is responsible for the digestion of dairy such as cheese, milk, yoghurt etc.
This enzyme decreases as we get older, hence many of us start to suffer issues when we try to eat/drink those things from cows.
Why is Lactase Good For You?
Adding lactase to your diet can help with your tolerance to dairy and can also help hugely with:
* Gas
* Bloating
* Irritable Bowel Syndrome
* Bowel Inflammation
These digestive enzymes are all included in Lean Greens, because the people who put it together actually know their stuff!
So there you have it you now know
1. You need to alkalise the gut pre meal to optimise absorption of the foods you consume.
2. You need to eat green veggies, you knew that anyway.
3. You need proper digestive enzymes to achieve really good gut health which has a profound effect on the way YOU look, feel and perform on a daily basis.
I can personally strongly recommend that you eat as many greens as you can but as you now know you will not be what you eat, you will become what you digest.
So taking a greens supplement that tastes as good as lean greens and has the right ingredients just starts to make absolute sense.
Its not a meal replacement, I am NOT into those. It’s about adding supportive nutrition to a well balanced intake of clean, whole and naturally sourced foods.
Have a wicked weekend and if you don’t get this til Monday then I hope you had a wicked weekend.
