When embarking on improving your health and your fitness there are many stages you see happening….
Initially the resistance to change and the “is this going to work”……
The struggle when the pain of where we are currently when it doesn’t correlate directly with the effort required to get where we want to be…..
The other is that the media has popularised losing weight as a measure of success! When the truth is, that doesn’t go on for ever and its not a direct measure of happiness long term.
Now for this client, sure he has lost over 40lbs since November, 7.5 inches from his waist, walked the Cornish coast line….but we know that he won’t go on and shouldn’t be aiming to lose more weight now…..
So its been a couple of months since we weighed and measured….in fact at the end of April, I took him through a session that required a specific amount of work done in 3 separate intervals and I timed them.
Two months later…..guess what….we retested……
The results were awesome ….roughly a 20% improvement in time taken to achieve the work done.
Why is this relevant…..because when he goes off for his walks…..he can achieve the same amount of work/distance with 20% increased efficiency of effort….I think we would all take that hey!
So the message here….
- You cant manage what you don’t measure
- Make what you are measuring relevant
- Choose something sustainable and objective to judge your improvements
