Perceptions like that of the radio presenter I listened to on Friday might be part of what is socially acceptable and might be the reason why less people are doing sports?
If you saw the news this morning, you will have seen that sport England have conducted a survey which shows a huge drop off in participation rates in many sports in the UK since the Olympics……..
Maybe I am a bit sensitive here….but I experience both sides of this coin each day….
So last Friday I was driving back from our fitness camp session, all done and dusted by 7am.
It must have been 7:15am…… and I was listening to a local radio station, Pirate FM…….
In between the adverts the presenters like to get the listeners to engage and call in with something they have found funny….
So this was about seeing ‘odd’ things happening in public.
Now….. this is where I got annoyed to be honest.
The presenter actually mentioned about a guy he saw in a layby doing press ups on the grass……
He referred to him a “fitness freak”………..
You see if a person doing press ups makes them a “fitness freak” what hope do we have as a nation whose obesity levels have reached an ALL TIME HIGH!
In a world where people are ever increasingly conscious of the way they look, and then someone calls them a freak for getting out there and trying to do the right thing…..not exactly encouraging.
On the flip side, I wonder if he had seen someone who was 10 stone overweight eating a takeaway , would he have called them a “fat freak”……….
No, you and I just wouldn’t do that…..
You don’t know what suffering, journey or emotions that person has gone through to get there…..clearly they would need help…….
Hey what if like many, exercise is a great stress outlet, helps that guy in the layby manage his mind to be better each day.
I am 100% sure, I would not be anywhere near as productive if I wasn’t training and eating right…..
So be careful when we label someone obsessed, OCD or “ X,Y, Z freak”……because you don’t know what part that action plays in their well being.
Just my thought for the day. What are your thoughts?
So, tomorrow I will be sending you over a few diamond tips on nutrition to help you get clearer on the whole acid/alkaline thing.
I have some exciting news on a personal note, I have just been invited by English athletics to speak on performance nutrition to their athletes in December, pretty cool news.
Speak soon
Matt 🙂
p.s. The competition last week to win £25 worth of prizes just by sending in your vote for our transformation programme winner was won by Nina Brotheridge. Nina, just email me (info@fa-fitness.co.uk) and we will sort out your prize.
p.p.s for the first time ever we have had a split decision between the coaching panel for the winner so we will be dividing the prizes between those two ladies. Both of whom did so well!
