Haha, no I am not going to give you mine here…….here is something VERY much more inspiring……
Did you see that programme from Mr Attenborough last Thursday at 9pm? Now when that guy stops doing his day job, I will be sad!
I have to be honest there are very few TV programmes you will get my attention long enough to watch more than 10 mins and if its more than 45 mins you will be lucky to keep me awake if it involves a sofa…but this one was EPIC!
Right from the minute I saw a 2 day old chick jump off the edge of the cliff……
At first I was thinking, this is mental, but there was no way of the chicks surviving at the top of the cliff as the parents could not carry food to them as it was so far up.
So the parents flew down to a point, 100’s of feet down and called their young, who one by one, took the leap of faith and jumped.
Bouncing off the rocks, several times, it was said that if the first impact was on their belly they had a fair chance of survival.
See, these chicks had a 40% chance of dying if they jumped and a 100% chance of dying if they didn’t. A painful place to be!
This got me thinking about people who just put things off, and then have to react when obesity, diabetes and poor strength come knocking……… and actually got me thinking of why I chose to do my ironman (being amongst people who are better and fitter than me) and why I wanted to do my first retreat in Namibia (not choosing the easy option of UK based venue, that will be coming next year though).
Actually being around people who have a higher standard of “WHATEVER” it is you want to achieve and whose results are the only way to move forward, you cant be king of your own castle all the time.
Personally, I couldn’t live with the fact that I ask people to step up and be the change they want to see, if I live inside a nice comfy bubble and don’t scare myself along the way…….that is BS and I won’t have it….so there is your permission to call me out if you see me being too comfortable.
It IS all about getting out of the comfort zone. Yep, I actually don’t want to be the person who says they will do something and never actually delivers.
For many of the animals in the “life stories” programme, the “pain” they would be in if they stood still was so great that they had no option but to move away from it.
That is essential what we need to make sure we take action, whether it be a fear of failure or a need to achieve…if the pain of not doing either is great enough, you will MOVE!
Remember that if we don’t like where we are at a moment in time, we can MOVE, we are not trees.
Often we play the game of hide and seek with our reality……….we can keep complaining that we don’t look as good as we want, moan about the fact our energy is crap, relationships with friends and loved ones are poor, that we keep getting injured, you hate your job, that we don’t sleep well….. …….
****Or we can JUST DEAL WITH IT *****…….stop poking poo with a stick as they say and actually deal with the reality that we are in.
So there are my thoughts for today, it really is from the heart, inspired by a TV programme from a man who inspires me…..I cant wait to watch part two tonight.
